Tonight at Rooftop Cinema, which could potentially on the last warm day of the season, The Serps present the award winning doco ‘Jisoe’ as well as ‘Harvey Spannos’, the surreal comedy starring Rick McCrank. If you haven’t read our interview with ‘Jisoe’ director Eddie Martin, click here, and to view a humourous ‘making of’ clip from ‘Harvey Spannos’ just click the image below. Event flyer after the jump… with daylight saving the films apparently begin a bit earlier so get there by 7.30pm to be safe.

23.03.07 - Chris Barton - coming up, film

Eddie Martin is a local documentary film maker with a great ability to both source and access the subjects of his films. Released in 2004 his film ‘Jisoe‘ received much acclaim including an Official Selection at Slam Dance Film Festival. With The Serps presenting the official launch of the Jisoe DVD (out through Siren Visual) this tuesday night (details after the jump) we wanted to find out a bit more about some upcoming projects as well some shoot-from-the-hip type questions on his process and independent film making in general.

In Australia for the first time, German artist Stefan Marx is soon to exhibit his work in two separate exhibitions. ‘Egyptian Loneliness’ will be held at Sydney’s Monster Children Gallery and ‘Until then, goodbye’ will be shown at Melbourne’s Don’t Come Gallery. Renowned for his skateboarding inspired installations - which serve to add more dimensions to his drawings - Stefan’s work encapsulates the spontaneity of his lifestyle, existing similarly, in the space between imagination and reality. Having only been here a couple of days he was kind enough to answer some questions about his dreams, his Nieves zines, his tees and his first memories of drawing. He also drew us a picture.

A collaborative project between Blarke Bayer (Ben Andrews - My Disco) and Black Widow (Robert MacManus - Grey Daturas), ‘Arctic Blast’ is a release spanning 3 tracks over 30 minutes. The first in a series, it will be launched this Friday March 16 at the unique Erwin Rado Theatre, 211 Johnston St, Fitzroy. Special guests include Bird Traps, Chris Smith and Default Jamerson. The gig begins at 8.30pm sharp and costs only $8 - not bad for a night of cinematic improvised music from some of Australia’s best.
