Nathan Gray // The Fold

The Fold, an exhibition by sound artist, designer, costume maker and screen print extraordinaire Nathan Gray will be opening this Friday (July 27) at Northcote’s Art and Music space Joint Hassles. Following a recent trip to Japan, Nathan cites the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka as a strong inspiration for the show, “all the best parts of all the cultures of the world are mixed together, masks, costumes, musical instruments, weapons and rituals. It was a completely different approach to a contemporary Australian museum.” Ethnology aside, the collection of collages incorporates the use of various hand dying techniques he has been experimenting with, as well as a salute to some of his favourite record covers and band posters.
