In the wake of the magazine we want to take the opportunity to apologise for the slight vacuum that has formed on our site. That aside, issue 02 of WON Magazine is due out mid-April and will feature a spread from Hamburg artist Thomas Baldischwyler who is going be exhibiting this week with Alex Vivian (aka Always) in KCID OT DETCIDDA. The show opens at Black & Blue gallery on Thursday so if you are in Sydney please come and check it out. For show flyer and details –>

KCID OT DETCIDDA opens at Black & Blue Gallery on 3 April from 6pm-9pm and can be viewed until 20 April, Thursday through Sundays, 11am-6pm.
Thomas Baldischwyler and Alex Vivian share the unique ability to express themselves across a variety of mediums. Whilst both are highly proficient musicians KCID OT DETCIDDA showcases their visual works through sculpture, photography and collage respectively.
Thomas Baldischwyler’s photographs of his labour intensive and complex sculptures using found objects and individually painted pieces of layered glass have received much acclaim both in his homeland of Germany and more recently here in Australia following his recent show in Melbourne, Gnud Ailartsua. Baldischwyler’s work draws heavily upon traditional German works fro the 18th century while retaining an undeniable psychoanalytical aesthetic and challenging our perception of what is abstract.
Alex Vivian’s self-contained collages are amalgamated from vintage advertisements, classic collectable comics and imagery to create pastiche of associated and intertwined meanings, Vivian’s use of negative space further accentuates the placement and independent nature of the aspects in each work.
